Some of these small dogs have been aquired through the Central California SPCA. This wonderful society is very eager to find new adoptive homes for their animals. Of the 30,000 animals euthanized at this one shelter per year, 11,000 of them are dogs.
Some of the dogs are local dogs that need re-homing for various reasons. I am willing to help people find new homes for their small dogs. They must be UTD on shots and spayed or neutered.
I travel to Fresno California from Leduc Alberta, and pick up 3 or 4 small dogs at a time to bring to Alberta to re-adopt out with the shelters blessing. I do have to pay the full adoption fee for the animals as their State Legislation requires this. I am a private individual doing this on my own, and am not, as of yet, a registered not for profit society in the province of Alberta. I charge a $350 adoption fee and require an adoption contract to be signed by the new adopters.
I do this as an alternative to people having to purchase small dogs from backyard breeders and puppy mills through the papers and pet stores, and creating a demand for those who are just in it for the money. Not all shelter dogs have been abused or abandoned. Due to the forclosure situation, many people are being forced to turn in their very much loved family pets as they are forced into rental accomodations that won't allow animals.
When there are good people who want to do the right thing by adopting, yet in Alberta, have trouble finding a small dog to adopt, my wish is to help fill that void, one dog at a time.
To purchase a dog from profit focused back yard breeders or commercial mills, when thousands of small dogs are being euthanized every day just a plane ride away, is an atrocity in my eyes, and it is my hope, to join together appropriate adoptive homes, with some of these fabulous little souls, who's lives are on the line.
If you are looking for a dog, please visit your local animal shelter first. I am here only to adopt small dogs (under 15 lbs) to appropriate homes, when their local small dog for adoption search has been unsuccessful.
Brenda, Heather, Beth, Lisa, Sarah, Michelle, Trina, Cheryl, Shane, Stephanie, Shawna, Wendy, Heika and John, Richard, Adele, Kip, Rick and Chris, Marilyn, Doreen, Joanne and Denise, all my co-workers, EZ rock. the media, my unbelievably patient and understanding husband Richard, my family and all those that support the cause and all those that "believe" thank you, thank you, thank you.
I can't do it without you. These dogs literaly would not be alive without you.
To the families who've adopted these lovely little souls. Thank you. Enjoy.
In this house...
I can trust arms that hold, hands that touch...
knowing that, no matter what they do, they do it for the good of me;
If I am ill, I will be doctored.
If scared, I will be calmed.
If sad, I will be cheered.
No matter what I look like, I will be considered beautiful and thought to be
of value.
I will never be cast out because I am too old, too ill, too unruly, or not
cute enough.
My life is a responsibility, and not an afterthought.
I will learn that humans can almost, sometimes, be as kind and as fair as
dogs.
